We Have Food At Home— Cookbook Design

Overview:
“We Have Food At Home” is a cookbook that brings the excitement of restaurant and fast-food copycat recipes into home kitchens. The project aims to make homemade meals as appealing as takeout, giving readers confidence to recreate their favorite dishes while staying on a budget. The design targets families with a playful and inviting tone, encouraging engagement and culinary exploration.

Design Decisions:
The cover combines familiar tools and motifs from home kitchens with restaurant-inspired imagery, creating movement that guides the eye around the design and frames the title. Typography uses a rounded, friendly typeface with varied weights to establish hierarchy and readability, while the color palette reflects the recipes themselves—greens for salads, browns and yellows for desserts, and supporting colors to enhance visual storytelling. Illustrations are vector-based with soft, rounded edges, allowing for clear communication, accessibility, and a family-friendly aesthetic.

The layout maximizes white space to avoid overwhelming the reader, with each recipe section clearly defined. Color-coded outlines differentiate starters, salads, and desserts, while the positioning of sidebars, tips, and ingredient lists ensures a natural reading flow. Across the spreads, visual hierarchy, balance, and movement work together to create a dynamic, engaging, and easy-to-follow cookbook experience.
